With more than 6 million Muslims residing in the United States there is an ever-present demand for construction of mosques in U.S. cities. The evening will provide a reflection of American history with a focus on the integration of the Muslim community. Maryam Eskandari will present case studies of mosques in the United States to investigate the architectural design and socially negotiated places of the Muslim community.

About the Speaker

Maryam Eskandari
Partner and Architect at M Squared Designs LLC ART + Architecture

The keynote speaker, Maryam Eskandari, is a Partner and Architect at M Squared Designs LLC art + architecture and a graduate of the Aga Khan Program in Islamic Architecture at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University, where she is a Research Associate. Maryam has received many prestigious awards including the esteemed Aga Khan Award in Islamic Architecture for her work on Muslim Spaces in Contemporary American Mosques. Maryam is a contributing writer for PBS Frontline and New York’s Elan Magazine. She has lectured on issues of Islamic Architecture at Harvard University.
